VSS Campus: Paradise of Youth
The campus sprawls over acre of land at the heart of Burla town surrounded by VeerSurendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) and Sambalpur University on both the sides. On the south a mountain range can be seen which intermingles with Debrigarh sanctuary and the famous “Barapahad” Jungle. On the opposite side Mahanadi River goes across Burla with rock paintings on her bed singing the song of life. The serene blue waters of Hirakud reservoir, queer and beautiful birds of far North, power channel, Right dyke, Minar, siphon, picnic spots, jhakarani temple, Iskon temple , Ghanteswari, Samaleswari temple and the tilted Huma temple nearby makes the whole atmosphere serene, graceful and spiritual.
Burla is teemed with young students of medical college, VSSUT and Sambalpur University besides the budding adolescence in schools and colleges. At every nook and corner one can find youthful activities. With a legacy of first kidney transplantation in our state decade ago and state of the Art facility for treatment and research in sickle cell anemia focus of this institution is to go ahead with rapid pace with an aim of reaching at the pinnacle of success. In spite of many ups and down this institution grows faster with 22 specialties, more super specialties and crossed the golden milestone of “50” 5 years back. Within a year or two this college may bear a new name “Veer Surendra Institute of Medical Science and Research” (VIMSAR). New infrastructure, newer medical education technology, integration among faculty and better student teacher relationship (Which is enriched by “Guru Divas”, spiritual activities at “Gita Bhawan”) make Burla still more enduring and attractive place for all.
Old boys association here is active and each year a mela of alumni is observed with fun and friendship. The feelings of Dr. I.P.Mishra, a senior cardiologist of US about Burla goes like this “Those years in Burla were tough, testing, challenging but also life changing, full of fun and good dear friends” is enough to fathom the depth of love, emotion and interpersonal relationship of the campus it imparts on the students.
